Booker T. Jones

I'm so grateful to have seen Booker T. Jones once again last night at my favorite venue. Being at TCAN is like being in someone's basement with great artists performing just feet in front of you. Hearing his groovy organ playing the songs I love left me grinning throughout the whole show. Click on the photos to make them bigger.

Growing up in Memphis, he started in the biz at 15. Besides the Hammond, he also played his guitar for a number of tunes. Several standing Os were given along with tons of love. Thanks, Booker T.

Booker T. recorded Green Onions in 1962 at the age of 17.

chill

When things are swirling all around you, detach and know that it will pass. During these unprecedented times, my latest painting entitled "The Happy Snowball" reminds me to relax and chill out for it will soon be over. Grab your popcorn and watch the mayhem play out and all the tacky gold get ripped down because it really can't get any worse.

Martha and the Vandellas

Motown songs never cease to change my mood. The pounding rhythms, background singing and creative lyrics really get my body groovin'. The tunes of Martha and the Vandellas are my favorites.

never be a dirty bird

I'll never understand the mindset of people who litter. For decades starting in the 70s, Woodsy Owl reminded us how not to be little piggies. This 1970 ad ran for years when I was a kid and had a huge impact on me. Give a hoot and pick up your trash and ciggy butts.

3(a+b)–2(c+d)=

As a teenager, my mom would ask me "why don't you know your math like you know your music?" I recently met Bob and Gary on vacation and we blabbed nonstop Beatles and 60s music and the fun lasted hours. Gee mom, I don't ever recall talking algebra with vacationers during my travels. But then again, I don't need calculus to paint pictures. Nevermind. Keep up with your math, kids. 😀

Dick Van Dyke

My first movie theater experience happened at age 3 in 1968 while seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Do I remember? No, but the film was shown every year on tv and it was my favorite. I've always loved the physical humor of Dick Van Dyke and the movie has a great story, good songs and a creepy child catcher. It also stars Benny Hill.

Boomtown tv show

If you were a kid living in the Boston area between 1956-1974, then you probably watched Boomtown hosted by the beloved Rex Trailer. What I recall most was the theme song Hoofbeats and how the audience entered the studio waving to Hey Look Me Over with some in their Cub Scout and Brownie uniforms. At Halloween the kids wore costumes.
