Shindig! tv show, 1964-66

Shindig! was a rock and roll tv show that aired from September 1964
until January 1966 on the ABC network. It was the first of its kind featuring non-stop music, a house band starring Billy Preston on organ, backup singers The Blossoms featuring Darlene Love and go-go dancers accompanying most of the acts. The host was Jimmy O'Neil, a deejay from Los Angeles. Here's a terrific tv special about Shindig!.

Shindig! inspired several other rock and roll programs such as:
• Hullabaloo
• Hollywood A Go-Go!
• Shivaree

video jukeboxes from the early 1960s

These are Scopitones. They're video jukeboxes that were invented in France in the early 1960s. They were made from surplus WWII airplane parts and only lasted a few years. This site has a bunch of Scopitones. The colors were very vivid and the costumes and dancing were somewhat risqué for the day, as evident in one of the most well-known Scopitones: Nancy Sinatra performing Boots. Shake it ladies.

Check out the Scopitones at 1:58 in the video above from 1963.

the last movie I saw

This scene is from the 1948 film
The Snake Pit. I watched it in my
Psychology Through Media class.
A woman goes into an insane
asylum and comes out
completely cured. Isn't life
great?! Mrs. Howell from Gilligan's Island plays the mother.
Here's more info on the film.

Piet Mondrian

Check out the Mondrian-inspired dresses on the chicks in this 1965 clip from Shindig! Take me there already. Don't know who Mondrian is?

fried fish

This is what I got when I ordered some fried fish...
a fried fish. It was very tasty and crispy! Then some
cats came along and I fed them the head and tail.

Oompa Loompa crossing

In Costa Rica, watch out for Oompa Loompas! If you
don't know what an Oompa Loompa is....

Hi, I'm orange.
I'm trying to
